453CI LC TORANA; 8.21 AT 167.7MPH

Everything about this completely re-engineered 453ci LC Torana sedan means business

40 year old Architect Andrew Milford has owned this 1971 LC Torana sedan since he bought it as an ordinary road car in 2003. Over the next two years it was turned into a drag racing car and then he “raced it for three years then broke the snout off the crank on the dyno”

As it is with many modified car owners, fixing the breakage was actually an opportunity to upgrade the vehicle further and so it was delivered to Race Car Engineering in Slacks Creek, Qld and completely re-engineered for the express purpose of swallowing the quarter mile as quickly as possible

The Torana now features a ¾ chassis with an adjustable ladder bar rear end, a Funny Car-style safety cage with extra members bracing the front end, and a chromoly 9in diff from Competition Engineering

The engine is a rebuilt Pro Stock Small Block V8 with an extra 53 cubes for a total of 453ci. It was put together by RC Performance Engines in Windsor Gardens, SA and it retains all of the Group 1 race car seriousness like a dry sump system, massive valve lift and a tunnel ram-style sheet metal manifold with a pair of very big carbies

Having had it back on the track since 2014, Andrew’s PB without any nitrous assistance yet is an 8.211 at 162.72mph achieved at Willowbank Raceway in March 2015. As quick as that is already, he declares that it “should run close to a 6 when it’s sprayed”
